The ease with which successful hacking attacks can be carried out poses a serious risk to most companies. At TITANS, we offer advice on how you can improve your cyber security measures.
Up to 83% of organisations experience multiple data breaches. Phishing attacks are a constant threat, with TrendMicro estimating the financial impact at $3.5 billion this year. ESET also highlights that the most prevalent risk in Slovakia from December 2023 to May 2024 was HTML/Phishing.Agent Trojan phishing scam.
Hackers exploit unresolved technical debt, outdated security controls, and shadow IT. This refers to software and hardware that is used by an organisation’s staff without permission from the IT department. Legacy infrastructure, unpatched systems, outdated configurations, or applications that have been granted too many permissions by corporate departments can also be vulnerabilities.
Furthermore, virtually anyone can carry out a successful cyber-attack through malicious software that is designed to be purchased or rented. In particular, demand is growing for info stealers, one of the many types of malware as a service (MaaS). They specialize in efficiently penetrating systems and obtaining sensitive data, and they are surprisingly cheap.
Microsoft said its customers face more than 600 million cyber-attacks every day. Moreover, more than 70% of malicious subjects are active for less than two hours, meaning they disappear before they are ever detected. The speed at which they operate highlights the need for more agile and effective cybersecurity measures.
However, more than a quarter of small organisations believe that their business will not survive a major cyber attack. As they often have limited budgets, they lack both sufficient measures and dedicated professionals.
According to Karim Eldefrawy, co-founder and CTO of Confidencial, companies that don’t have the budget and resources to adequately protect data should consider outsourcing IT support. Neglecting the area could lead to significant legal, financial, reputational and regulatory risks.
